Arizona Public Universities Release New Tuition and Fee Proposals


TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) — Public universities in Arizona have released new tuition and fee proposals that must be approved by the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR).

The proposals will be presented to the board at a meeting at Arizona State on Thursday, March 24 and a public hearing will be held on Monday, March 28.

The proposals will be voted on by ABOR at a meeting at the University of Arizona on Thursday, April 7.

University of Arizona proposal

  • Undergraduate programs
    • Guaranteed tuition fees for residents will increase by 2%
    • Guaranteed tuition fees for non-residents will increase by 5.6%
    • Tuition fees for unsecured residents will increase by 2%
    • Tuition fees for unsecured non-residents will increase by 5.6%
  • Graduation programs
    • Resident tuition will increase by 2%
    • No change in tuition fees for non-residents (0%)

More than 99% of continuing undergraduate students will experience no increase in tuition or compulsory fees for 2022-2023, due to their enrollment in the Tuition Guarantee Program. New undergraduate students for the 2022-2023 academic year are guaranteed the new tuition and fees for four consecutive years. Incoming graduate students for the 2022-2023 academic year are assured of the new mandatory fee rate for four consecutive years.

Mandatory fees will increase by $175 per year for health and recreation fees and $135 per year for student services fees. Additionally, Recreation Center program fees may increase each year based on the Consumer Price Index, and Arizona Financial Aid Trust fees will increase based on an approved tuition increase.

Arizona State University Proposal

  • Undergraduate programs
    • Resident tuition will increase by 2.5%
    • Tuition fees for non-residents will increase by 4%
    • International tuition fees will increase by 5%
  • Graduation programs
    • Resident tuition will increase by 2.5%
    • Tuition fees for non-residents will increase by 4%
    • International tuition fees will increase by 5%

Digital Immersion per credit hour will increase by 2% with a cap for Arizona undergraduate and graduate students equivalent to the full-time Immersion tuition rate per semester. Basic digital immersion tuition for non-resident students is charged per credit hour with no cap.

Northern Arizona University

  • Undergraduate programs
    • Resident tuition will increase by 3.5%
    • Tuition fees for non-residents will increase by 3.5%
    • Online international tuition fees will increase by 2%
  • Graduate programs
    • Resident tuition will increase by 3.5%
    • Tuition fees for non-residents will increase by 3.5%

NAU’s Pledge program, which guarantees a tuition rate for four years for new undergraduate resident students at the Flagstaff campus, remains in place.
