Florida public universities ranked among the best in the country by US News and World Report


UF earned the number 5 ranking on the list

Governor Ron DeSantis announced that US News and World Report has released its 2022-2023 Best Colleges Rankings, with Florida’s public universities earning the top spots in several categories.

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Governor Ron DeSantis announced that U.S. News and World Report has released its 2022-2023 Best Colleges Rankings, with Florida’s public universities earning the top spots in several categories.

The Best Colleges Rankings placed the University of Florida (UF) and Florida State University (FSU) among the top 20 public universities in the nation.

UF got the number 5 ranking on the list and FSU got the number 19 spot.

The University of South Florida was ranked among the top 50 public universities in the nation at number 42, climbing four spots from last year and entering the list of top 100 public and private universities for the very first time in the world. number 97.

The University of Central Florida (UCF) and Florida International University were also among the top 100 public universities nationally, ranking 64 and 72, respectively.

Since 2021, Florida has been ranked the top state for higher education for five consecutive years by US News and World Report.

“Florida’s schools are among the best in the country, and this ranking shows that our investments in higher education and our commitment to providing affordable, quality education are paying off,” Governor Ron DeSantis said.

“I’m especially proud that we haven’t authorized a tuition increase since I became governor, making higher education in Florida as affordable as virtually anywhere in the country.”

“When it comes to higher education, there is no state in the country better than Florida,” Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. said. “Thanks to the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, we have kept our tuition low and our standards high while offering the best post-secondary options that stand out from the rest.

“We are extremely grateful to Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature for prioritizing higher education in the State of Florida year after year,” said Brian Lamb, Chairman of the Board of Governors. “The result of this commitment, along with the hard work of our Board of Trustees, university management, faculty and students, is reflected in the improvement and awareness rankings of all of our universities in Report released today by the US News and World report.”

Florida schools also achieved high rankings in other categories. Both UF and FSU ranked in the top 30 colleges for veterans. UCF was ranked 20th for most innovative schools. Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University was ranked number 7 on the list of historically black public and private colleges and universities.
