Nigerian government to pay students studying at public universities N75,000 per semester


In order to encourage more Nigerians to pursue teaching careers, the Nigerian government announced the payment of N 75,000 per semester for each public university student studying education programs.

Likewise, college education students are also billed to receive N50,000 per semester.

Education Minister Adamu Adamu made the revelation on Tuesday in Abuja during the commemoration of World Teachers’ Day 2021.

He said: “Undergraduates of B.Ed / BA Ed / BSc. Public educational institutions will receive a stipend of N 75,000.00 per semester, while NCE students will receive an allowance of N 50.00 per semester.

“The federal government should find the modality whereby the respective state governments could automatically provide employment for NCE graduates at the basic education level. “

Confirming the development of PREMIUM TIMES in a telephone interview, the Registrar and Director General of the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Professor Josiah Ajiboye, said implementation will begin in 2022.

Mr Ajiboye said the implementation of the 65-year-old retirement age for Nigerian teachers began in January 2021 and the new announcement was made ahead of its implementation in 2022.

“This is part of the efforts to reposition the education sector in Nigeria and it has clearly shown the commitment of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari towards regaining glory in the sector, ”said Mr. Ajiboye.

The Registrar, whose five-year term was recently renewed by the president, called on relevant stakeholders to ensure the promotion of quality education as a backbone of national development.
