Raja Basharat to change the law of members of the Senate for public universities


LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – August 25, 2021): A meeting was held at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Punjab Minister of Law and Cooperatives Raja Basharat during which the procedure for appointing members of the The Punjab Assembly (MPA) for the Senate of five public universities in Punjab was discussed.

Vice Chancellors of Punjab Lahore University, UET Lahore, Zakaria Multan University, Islamia Bahawalpur University, Deputy Registrar of Faisalabad Agricultural University, Legal Secretary, DG Research from the Punjabi Assembly and the Special Secretary of Higher Education also attended the meeting.

Due to the complexity of the process, the senatorial elections of the five universities did not take place for a long time and important administrative matters were affected, so it was decided to change the law according to which instead of holding elections now, the president be authorized to appoint a male and female member of the Punjab Assembly as a member of the senate of each university.

The amendment was approved unanimously and the provincial minister asked the Ministry of Higher Education to immediately prepare a draft of the proposed amendment.
