Several community colleges in North Carolina receive bomb threats

Several community colleges in North Carolina received bomb threats on Thursday.

The main campus of Durham Tech and the campus of Edgecombe County Community College in Rocky Mount were evacuated and eventually closed for the rest of Thursday as authorities investigated the threats, according to social media posts from both colleges.

According to WRAL, community colleges in Johnston County, Martin County and Vance-Granville have also received threats.

No suspicious objects were found during a thorough search of all college campuses.

Lawson Street in Durham has reopened and is accessible.

Durham Technical Community College and two other community colleges in central North Carolina received bomb threats on Thursday.

The main campus of Durham Tech and the campus of Edgecombe County Community College in Rocky Mount were evacuated and eventually closed for the rest of Thursday as authorities investigated the threats, according to social media posts from both colleges.

According to WRAL, Johnston County Community College was the third college to receive a threat.

At around 11 a.m. Thursday, Durham Technical Community College posted an emergency alert on its Facebook page asking everyone on the main campus to shelter in place due to a bomb threat it had received .

Initially, two buildings, 6 and 10, were evacuated because of the threat. A second message around noon told campus staff and students to get out immediately.

The college will be closed for the rest of the day, according to its website.

Staff and students wishing to use GoDurham public transport can do so at the nearest bus stop at the corner of Lawson and Bacon streets, the website says.

Durham Technical Community College’s main campus buildings have been evacuated due to a bomb threat, the college announced on its Facebook page.

Durham Police are investigating. All students and staff have been asked to leave.

An initial Facebook post said everyone on campus was to shelter in place and that two buildings had been evacuated due to the threat.
