Spokane Community Colleges are delighted to welcome Dr Dinh Thi Thanh Van from Vietnam to Spokane as a Fulbright Visiting Fellow this year. Dr. Van, while not having direct teaching responsibilities during her first term, will be giving a guest lecture to several courses this fall at Spokane Community College.

“We are honored to have Dr. Van join the CCS as a Fulbright Fellow in Residence at Spokane Community College,” said Valerie Senatore, CCS Marshal. “Dr. Van’s vast and broad experiences around the world, both in academia and the financial industry, provide an unprecedented learning opportunity for students and the CCS community. “

Since 2014, Dr Van has been Vice Dean of Finance and Banking Operations at Vietnam National University of Business and Economics. His interests include personal finance, banking management, treasury management in banks, financial risk management, and corporate finance in undergraduate and master’s degree programs.

Dr. Van has over 15 years of teaching and lecturing experience in business, finance and banking. In 1998, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in accounting in Vietnam, then in 2005, her master’s degree in finance in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

In 2013, Dr. Van obtained her doctorate in advanced econometrics.

Dr Van was also a Fulbright Visiting Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, from 2013 to 2014. In addition to her work in universities, she also teaches financial literacy classes to K-12 students, students and rural women, as well as other minority groups in Vietnam.

“By intentionally focusing on women entrepreneurs, Dr Van’s expertise will certainly enrich the educational paths of our students in a unique way that reinforces our commitment to supporting diverse and inclusive pathways to professional success,” said Provost Senatore.

Dr Van also publishes several financial education books, such as “Finance for Kids”, “Personal Financial Management for Women”, “Financial Management Manual for Students” and is co-author of the board game “Financial Race”.

While at SCC, Dr. Van will be joined by Faculty Mentor Mike Allen. Dr. Van will be a guest speaker in several fall term business courses and teach a course during the winter and spring terms.

“CSC’s business and legal studies professors are excited to work with Ms. Van and learn from her expertise in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and economics,” said Jeff Brown, Dean of Business, hospitality and information technology at CSC.
